Delta College

In addition to ThinkBIG, Delta College offers Degree and Certificate programs in Diesel & Heavy Equipment Technology, Fluid Power Technology and Welding Technology. Business majors can also receive a comprehensive A.S. Degree in AG Business or a Basic Business Certificate.

AG Business & AG Mechanics
Students in this AG Business program will receive the knowledge, skills and training for employment in Agribusiness positions such as AG Accounting Assistants Agricultural Warehouse and Inventor Technicians, Crop Insurance Agent, and many more.

Upon successful completion of the Agriculture Mechanics Certificate, the student will demonstrate the skills, knowledge, and training for employment in equipment repair, maintenance and assembly as well as the ability to troubleshoot and make adjustment and necessary repairs to equipment.

Diesel & Heavy Equipment Technology
Diesel Technology is a program of specialized theory and laboratory exercises in general maintenance of diesel trucks, diesel engines, and the supportive equipment provided for their functional purposes. The subject matter is designed to help one secure employment in the truck and diesel industries.

Upon successful completion of the Heavy Equipment Mechanic Certificate, the student demonstrates skills, knowledge, and training for entry-level employment for the following positions: technician for heavy equipment dealerships, technician for heavy equipment repair facilities, technician for agricultural dealerships/repair shops, and technician for industrial engine dealers.

Fluid Power Technology
Fluid Power is concerned with the use of pressurized fluid in a confined system to accomplish work using liquid in a hydraulic system and air in a pneumatic system. Fluid power is widely used in agricultural machines, aircrafts, and automobiles.

Welding Technology
Courses within the Welding Technology program will provide the necessary skills for preparation to enter the welding trades. The courses develop the necessary skills to use arc and gas techniques including the theory of welding ferrous and non-ferrous metals, metallurgy of welding, design of welding components and related science.

Merced College

Merced College has recently expanded their Diesel Technology and Mechanized Agriculture Degree and Certificate programs to include instruction on Caterpillar machines and On-highway truck engines. They also offer Degree and Certificate programs in AG Business and Welding Technology.

1/4 Scale Tractor Competition
Modesto Junior College competes each year in the American Society of Agriculture and Biological Engineers' 1/4 scale tractor event. The event is designed to give students real world skills as well as provide them with a way to apply information they have gained in the classroom.

Welding Technology
This program is designed to teach students welding of ferrous and nonferrous metals. Instruction is given in the various welding techniques, including flat, vertical, over head, and pipe. Related technical phases of welding are also covered.

Welding Technology
Manufacturing Technology is a comprehensive program of instruction designed to develop knowledge of scientific principle, mathematical concepts, and technical skills. It includes laboratory experiences found in Machine, Welding, and related technologies. These experiences will enable the technician to enter industry with problem-solving skills in design, production planning, materials handling, quality control, inspection, and programming with computeraided controls.
